Last month at UFC 202, Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson picked up a spectacular 1st round knockout win over Glover Teixeira to cement his place at the top of the UFC’s light heavyweight division.
Following the win, Johnson called out UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier for a highly anticipated rematch for the light heavyweight championship. Cormier verbally agreed to the bout, and with Jon Jones currently sidelined with his NSAC appeal, all signs pointed to the pair having a fight sooner rather than later.
UFC President Dana White had an idea of his own however, mentioning the idea of having Johnson and Jon Jones fight for Jones’ interim light heavyweight championship given that his USADA appeal is reportedly going well.
With that being said, the pair recently engaged in a mini-Twitter feud in which Johnson called for a fight with Cormier at UFC 205 in November, the UFC’s inaugural event at the Madison Square Garden. When Johnson called for the fight against Cormier, the light heavyweight champ shut the idea down, stating that they could fight, but not at UFC 205.
With no update on how Jones’ appeal process with USADA is going, many are wondering if the UFC will move forward with booking a Cormier vs. Johnson bout. According to a new report however, Cormier is unable to take a fight at UFC 205 due to his analyst duties with Fox Sports 1.
That didn’t go over too well with Anthony Johnson, who took to Twitter to respond to the situation:

So far no word yet on if the UFC is looking to book the bout, let alone when they are looking to book it.
If the fight is next however, Johnson will enter the fight on a 3-fight win streak that has seen him KO Jimi Manuwa, Ryan Bader, and most recently Glover Teixeira.
Cormier on the other hand, will also be riding a 3-fight win streak into the bout that has seen him defeat Johnson, Alexander Gustafsson, and Anderson Silva.
