During UFC Fight Night 44, news broke that now retired UFC fighter Chael Sonnen had failed a second drug test. This test was taken after the test he previously admitted to failing. Unlike last time, this test was positive for Human Growth Hormone (HGH) and recombinant human erythropoietin (EPO).

During the post-fight press conference Dave Sholler, who filled in for UFC president Dana White, offered up a statement making the company’s position on the situation clear.

“We are made aware that a second random test resulted in a positive test result for Chael Sonnen. Chael will have an opportunity to appear in front of the Nevada State Athletic Commission on July 23rd.

“We will support the commission and continue to ensure that all competitors complete on a level playing field free of performance enhancing drugs.”

Obviously, Sonnen is retired but this news does bring up a lot of questions. We will keep you posted on any new details from Sonnen or the UFC.
