In the first fight of the main card, welterweights Gunnar Nelson (pictured) and Omari Akhmedov met in the Octagon.

Nelson’s karate style proved successful, when he dropped Akhmedov in the first round with a straight left. Nelson gained full mount and beat Akhmedov up with elbows for the majority of the round, leaving the Russian fighting expert battered and bloodied.

Seeming like he could do whatever he wanted, Nelson gave up his position and quickly transitioned so he could lock up a guillotine choke and force Akhmedov to tap before the end of the frame.
