No ‘Bones’ broken following UFC 165 Main Event War

One of the years best fights took place this past weekend at UFC 165 in Toronto, as Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafsson (15-2 MMA, 7-2 UFC) and Jon “Bones” Jones (19-1 MMA, 13-1 UFC) went to war in the evenings main event for the UFC light heavyweight title.

Although “Bones” was successful in defending his title, winning a close judges decision, both he and “The Mauler” were taken to a nearby hospital at night’s end.

Jon Jones trainer, Mike Winkeljohn, initially suspected that “Bones” had broken his foot in the first-round, after “The Mauler” checked one of his kicks, as he stated on twitter:

Mike Winkeljohn (@mmacoachwink): Jon Jones showed true grit tonight fighting through a badly injured foot, possibly shattered.. early on in the fight

However, according to a report from MMAJunkie.com, both Jones and Gus were released from the hospital with no broken bones and no serious injuries.

That news would essentially clear the path for an immediate rematch, which UFC President Dana White called “A real possibility.”

Afterall, the Jones vs. Gustafsson battle at UFC 165 is now being touted as one of the “greatest light heavyweight fights of all-time.”
