UFC San Antonio gets six fights, Irene Aldana makes quick turnaround, Alexey Oleynik vs Walt Harris rebooked

Irene-Aldana

The UFC returns to Texas for UFC San Antonio this upcoming Summer.

Having already had a big flyweight showdown announced earlier this week with Liz Carmouche vs Roxanne Modafferi, Thursday brought us a whopping six more fight additions.

Farah Hannoun dropped the news (via San Antonio Express-News). Most notable of the six fights added to the July 20 date was a top 10 bantamweight clash that will see Mexico’s Irene Aldana (10-4) make a relatively quick turn around to take on the No. 3 ranked contender and former title challenger, Raquel Pennington (9-7).

Aldana just this past Saturday night in Brazil at UFC 237 defeated Bethe Correia via third-round submission (armbar). For Pennington, she’ll be looking to snap a two-fight losing streak. Her last fight was against former UFC featherweight champion, Germaine de Randamie at UFC Denver in November 2018.

Also among the fight announcements was a rebooking of a heavyweight clash between the ultra-experienced Alexey Oleynik (57-12-1) and Walt Harris (12-7). Russia’s “Boa Constrictor” last took on Alistair Overeem in the UFC Saint Petersburg main event where he suffered a first-round TKO loss. Thus snapping a two-fight losing streak.

Harris, on the other hand, just destroyed UFC newcomer, Sergey Spivak at UFC Ottawa with a 50 second TKO.

Fan favorite “Smilin’” Sam Alvey (33-12) is also back in action for the first time since his trip to Australia in February. He hopes to end his two-fight skid by treating Klidson Abreu (14-3) to a rude sophomore UFC appearance.

Two more bantamweight bouts were also added to the card accompanied by a featherweight scrap featuring Alex “Bruce LeeRoy” Caceres (14-12) vs Steven Peterson (17-8).
