A women’s strawweight title fight between Rose Namajunas and Jessica Andrade headlined tonight’s UFC 237 pay-per-view event in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Rose Namajunas (8-3 MMA) entered tonight’s headliner having not competed since UFC 223 in April of 2018. That night in Brooklyn, Rose had defeated former division champion Joanna Jędrzejczyk for the second time in her career.
Meanwhile, Jessica Andrade entered tonight’s main event on a three-fight win streak, her latest being a devastating one-punch knockout victory over Karolina Kowalkiewicz.
Tonight’s UFC 237 main event saw Rose Namajunas get off to a quick start. The American was able to utilize her jab and range to frustrate and outpoint the Brazilian in a lopsided opening first round.
Round two appeared to be more of the same from Namajunas, as she continued to snap her jab and counter beautifully when Andrade attempted to get inside. Eventually Jessica would get a hold of Rose and when did she proceeded to pick Namajunas up and slam her to the canvas. The impact from her head hitting the floor resulted in Rose Namajunas being knocked out cold, thus crowning Jessica Andrade the new UFC women’s strawweight Champion.

Thank god Rose is ok! I was really nervous watching that. The neck stuff freaks me out especially being a victim of neck injuries as well. #UFC237

Wow, I don’t think anyone saw that coming, Rose had her number in the striking and was more technical on the ground but holy shit don’t let Andrade pick your ass up. #UFC237
