Ben Askren wants ‘despicable’ Colby Covington after he gets ‘beat up’ by Tyron Woodley

Nothing has been announced officially yet by the UFC…but if Ben Askren himself is any indication, it very well might be.

Earlier today a report that a historic and groundbreaking potential “trade” was in the works between the UFC and ONE Championship. The “trade” between the organizations is an exchange between former UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson and the former Bellator and ONE welterweight champion Askren.

Well, Askren has wasted no time in voicing how he wants to begin what looks to be the next step ahead in his MMA journey.

@ColbyCovMMA might get beat up by @TWooodley first but I’m calling dibs on whipping him next. He is despicable

Notice not one of these WW’s is saying my name right now. They think if they hide their heads in the sand some other poor lamb will be taken for slaughter.

Of course, Colby Covington is the current UFC interim welterweight champion and Askren’s longtime teammate Tyron Woodley is the undisputed champion. So upon Woodley’s return in 2019, he’s expected to take on the often outspoken Covington.

For the undefeated 18-0 Askren, he’s made it clear in the previous months that he hopes to eventually get a showdown with the former welterweight and middleweight champion and all-time MMA great, Georges St-Pierre. However, St-Pierre has also made it clear that he isn’t quite sure that Askren would make for the biggest fight possible that St-Pierre happens to be seeking.

GSP is also not 100 percent ready to return to action as he is still getting his ulcerative colitis under control.

Because of that, Askren is probably pretty unlikely to make his UFC debut against the Canadian icon so a fight with Covington or really any other top welterweight could be just perfect for him to potentially pique St-Pierre’s interest.
