Unable to find a willing opponent, Jorge Masvidal is headed to reality television

UFC welterweight contender Jorge Masvidal has been looking for a fight. Over the last few weeks, he’s issued repeated callouts of Neil Magny and Kamaru Usman, and answered the callout of surging British contender Leon Edwards.

“If [Edwards] is the biggest ranked guy I can get my hands on than that’s who it is,” Masvidal said on a recent episode of BJPENN.COM Radio. “Doesn’t really matter. If they were to offer me a number 5 dude, number 4 dude, of course I’m gonna say yes to that over Leon.”

“If I could get my hands on Usman, I’d love it, but I know he’s not going to fight me,” Masvidal continued. “So I want to talk, like, real fights that could possibly happen, not fantasy files, you know? So I don’t know, man. Magny would be a perfect fight, because he’s number 7, but he won’t fight me, at 170, at 155, at no weight.”

“Usman said that I didn’t want to fight him. I’ve heard a lot of wild tales, that’s one of the wildest ones I’ve heard. This guy comes straight out of Wild Wild West, you know? This guy, no, he’s … I don’t know if he’s bi-polar, delusional … When was I offered a fight with you and I turned it down?”

Despite being ready and willing to take fights with the welterweights mentioned above, Masvidal has not been able to find a willing dance partner. For that reason, he’s turned his attention to the Spanish reality television program Exatlon Estados Unidos, a show that “will seek to find the athlete with the strongest physical and mental abilities through a series of obstacle races, extreme living conditions and instances of isolation from the outside world,” (via Broadway World).

Gamebred announced this news on Twitter.

On this show, Masvidal will be joined by a Mexican Olympic track-and-field star, a Mexican Olympic gymnast, a Mexican soccer player, a Puerto Rican Olympic gymnast, and several Average Joes. He and the show’s other contestants will be competing for a $200,000 prize.

How do you think Jorge Masvidal will perform on Exatlon Estados Unidos?
