If reigning UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier topples Stipe Miocic at UFC 226, he’ll capture the UFC heavyweight belt, become one of just two fighters in UFC history to wear two belts concurrently, and in the eyes of many fans, cement himself as one of the sport’s best ever.
Jon Jones, the only man to defeat Cormier, doesn’t share that feeling.
On Wednesday, the UFC’s official Twitter account broached the question: “Does a win at UFC 226 earn [Daniel Cormier] GOAT status?”

Jones quickly responded to this Tweet, assuring that we shouldn’t even be asking this question.
what have you done for me lately? Let’s just be real and stop asking this question https://t.co/Tw3FcpH3bK

“What have you done for me lately?” Jones said in his reply. “Let’s just be real and stop asking this question.”
Jones then offered further thoughts on the matter in a followup Tweet.
If he’s in the conversation does that make me the motherfucking man? https://t.co/cEnNRayEus

“If [Cormier’s] in the conversation does that make me the motherfucking man?” he asked.
Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier have fought twice before. The first time they met, Jones won by unanimous decision. The second time, Jones put Cormier down with a head-kick, though his knockout victory was overturned due to a failed drug test.
At present, Jones is awaiting sentencing for this failed drug test. While there’s no news on his punishment just yet, his manager Abe Kawa recently suggested we should have some clarity soon.
“USADA does a very good job,” Kawa said on a recent episode of The MMA Hour. “They’ve done a very good job cleaning up the sport. It’s imperative that they get this right. It’s imperative that they get this case right, because of who Jon is. And I think they’re doing the best they can to get it right. With that being said, I’m confident that we will have a decision soon. I just don’t want to put a date on it and say, it’s gonna come down at this time, it’s gonna come at that time.
“There is a decision coming and it’s hopefully sooner rather than later.”
