James Krause returns to welterweight to take on Warlley Alves at UFC Lincoln

One of MMA’s top dual talents when it comes to simultaneously fighting and coaching has their return to the Octagon scheduled.

Glory MMA’s “The” James Krause last fought in January when he extended his current winning streak to four straight with a unanimous decision over Alex White.

That bout with White took place at 155-pounds where a majority of Krause’s career has taken place, particularly in the UFC. Prior to that win, he fought four times in a row at 170-pounds with three of which coming on season 25 of The Ultimate Fighter.

Now Krause is set to return to the welterweight division as it was initially reported by Combate and shortly after confirmed by the Kansas City native himself that he would be taking on Warlley Alves at UFC Lincoln on August 25th.

The TUF: Brazil 3 winner at middleweight, Alves is no easy challenge in Krause’s return to 170 as he is the only man to ever defeat the current interim champion Colby Covington and he did so via first round submission. Alves also currently rides a winning streak of two.

For Krause, his next fight after his last may not have always been at welterweight as he told BJPenn.com last month when recalling his offer to fight Leonardo Santos earlier in the year.

“[The UFC] actually offered me the fight [with Santos]. At the time that I was offered the fight, I was debating on what weight class that I would like to go in. Whether I was going ’55 or go back and try ’70 again. I just really…if I was going to ’55, I wasn’t ready to do it again. It’s a really tough cut for me to make, so I really didn’t want to do it. I’m a much tougher welterweight, so it just didn’t make sense for me to do at the time.”

For both men, this will be their second fight of 2018.
