EXCLUSIVE | Yoel Romero will fight Michael Bisping in a park, as long as the UFC middleweight belt is on the line

Yoel Romero scored one of the nastiest knockouts of 2016 this past November at UFC 205 in New York when he landed a flying knee to the head of former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman.

That victory earned Romero top contender status in the UFC’s 185-pound division and a shot at current UFC middleweight title holder Michael Bisping.

Yoel Romero recently joined host Chris Taylor on BJPENN.com’s Rapid Fire segment where he discussed when and where he hopes to challenge “The Count” for the UFC’s coveted middleweight title.

“I will fight with Michael Bisping outside of an event! Any event, outside of an event, in a park, wherever! As long as what is on the line is the belt and the title then I will fight Bisping anywhere, anytime, anyplace, wherever.”

He continued:

“But if they (The UFC) were to give me a chance to choose, I would love to fight on the same card as Conor McGregor.”

Taylor mentioned that McGregor could possibly be on the sidelines until the summer of 2017 as he awaits the birth of his first child. However, Romero seems ok with the idea of waiting until the summer for his title fight, if it means getting another opportunity to compete on the same card as the Irish star.

“Yea I know that right now he is off enjoying the time with his wife. He is about to become a father and there are a lot of good things that are happening to him and I really hope that he enjoys his time with his family outside of the fight game. But if I were to choose, I would really enjoy being on the same card as Conor again.”

Romero knows his title shot against Bisping will come, so he is not pressing the issue currently.

“Yea you know I have always said that time does not belong to man. It belongs to god. And when the time comes for it to happen (a title fight with Bisping), let it happen. I will be ready!”
