Jorge Masvidal is down for an “easy money” fight with Conor McGregor

Conor McGregor, Jorge Masvidal

Last weekend, in the co-main event of the UFC’s latest trip to Denver, American Top Team staple Jorge Masvidal secured one of the best wins of his career by knocking out Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone – arguably twice in one fight.

This massive defeat of Cowboy followed a strange, but undeniably dominant defeat of Jake Ellenberger, and an impressive victory over Ross Pearson. This trio of emphatic victories has established Masvidal as one of the hottest contenders in the welterweight division, and a fighter very much deserving of a step up in competition.

In a recent exclusive interview with BJPENN.com, Masvidal explained that he’s interested in a bout with streaking welterweight contender Demian Maia, who could be the most terrifying grappler in MMA today.

As it turns out, however, Masvidal is also interested in a fight with UFC lightweight champion and transcendent Irish star Conor McGregor. Masvidal expressed this interest in a recent Tweet, explaining that after eating an “Ellenburger” and some “riCerrone” (get it?), he’s hungry for a bowl of “lucky charms.”

With his defeat of Cerrone, Masvidal improved to 3-2 as a UFC welterweight, and 32-11 overall. McGregor, meanwhile, is currently 21-3 in sum.

Though the Irishman is currently competing in the lightweight division, where he recently won divisional cold with a beautiful second-round knockout of Eddie Alvarez, he has competed in the welterweight division in the past, both times against Nate Diaz. In his first bout with Diaz, he succumbed to a second-round rear-naked choke. In his second bout with the Stockton fan favorite, he got a bit of revenge with a hard-fought majority decision win.

At the moment, of course, McGregor’s sole focus seems to rest on a mega-fight with semi-retired boxing great Floyd Mayweather, though he also seems interested in a bout with Manny Pacquiao.

Would you be interested in seeing Jorge Masvidal take on Conor McGregor? If so, who do you think wins? Sound off, PENN Nation!
