Rousimar Palhares is no stranger to controversy and he may end up being more trouble than what he’s worth at World Series of Fighting.
Palhares has always had the reputation amongst fighters as being “dirty” due to his repeated offenses of holding on to submission holds long after the fight is over. His inability to release submission holds cost him his job at Ultimate Fighting Championship and is still causing controversy at WSOF.
“WSOF 22: Palhares vs. Shields” rivaled “UFC 190” and would have generated more buzz if it weren’t for Ronda Rousey’s insane performance. Palhares trapped Shields in a kimura in the middle of the third round and Shields was forced to submit. Shields tapped several times, but Palhares chose to hold on to the kimura until the referee came over.
The referee came over and tried to pull Palhares off, but Palhares still held on to the submission for one or two more seconds before letting go. This enraged Shields who retaliated with a punch after the bell.
Do you think Palhares held on to the submission for too long? Should he be punished? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
