Dana White and other UFC officials may have had good intentions with inking the deal with Reebok, but veterans of the game are going to be losing fistfuls of cash because of lost sponsorships in the octagon.
While some fighters are fans of the deal because of the guaranteed money, Donald Cerrone stated that he would actually be losing over $50,000 because of the Reebok deal. He told Yahoo Sports, “Per fight, yeah, I’m going to take a little bit of a cut, sure. I think my pay grade with the Reebok deal is, $20,000, or $22,000. So, comfortably, [I’m] saying that I’m going to be losing $60,000 a fight probably.”
However, his deals sponsorships outside of the octagon with Fram and Budweiser will still help him pocket some extra cash other than his paycheck for stepping into the cage. “Budweiser, along with Fram and others are on board with the UFC and Reebok, so I kind of lucked out,” Cerrone said. “I got lucky and all my sponsors are sticking by me. We’ll figure how to make it work outside of the UFC. No, I’m not going to be making the big money on the fights like I am now but it’s all going to work out.
Donald Cerrone will be fighting John Makdessi this weekend at UFC 187. Cerrone was originally scheduled to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov, but he was forced to pull out of the bout because of a leg injury.
