It’s difficult to say if the headline-dominating boxing match between UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor and recently un-retired boxing great Floyd Mayweather will ever happen. The logistical and bureaucratic hurdles of a fight of this scale are going to be very difficult to navigate. That being said, there seems to be more and more reason to believe this combat sports mega-spectacle could actually happen.

One of the latest reasons to believe this showdown could actually occur is Mayweather’s enlisting UFC lightweight Kevin Lee to help him train for a possible fight with McGregor. At a glance, this looks like a wise move on Mayweather’s part. Given that McGregor’s and Lee’s fighting styles are as different as night and day, however, it might not be as clever a ploy as it seems. At least, that’s what former fighter and current podcast host Brendan Schaub thinks.

Schaub explained this feeling on a recent episode of Big Brown Breakdown.

“I would not say Kevin Lee is a good mimic of Conor McGregor,” he said. “He is a wrestler; his base is wrestling. This is just [Mayweather] not knowing the sport [of MMA]. If [Mayweather’s team] should do anything, they should bring in – as money is not an issue to Floyd mayweather – that Brazilian cat (Jonas Bilharinho) that Jose Aldo used to mimic Conor McGregor. Granted, that didn’t work out for [Aldo], but he does move similar to Conor McGregor.”

“I’ve never seen someone move like Conor McGregor,” Schaub continued. “This guy in Brazil that Jose Aldo used, he’s very similar, very unorthodox. That’s what [Mayweather] needs, an unorthodox striker to get ready for Conor McGregor.”
