Nick Diaz shuts down comeback talk: ‘I just want to party’

Speaking at the UFC 234 post-fight press conference, Anderson Silva called for a rematch with former Strikeforce champion Nick Diaz, who he battled to a no contest in early 2015. In fact, Silva claimed he’d actually been in contact with Diaz’s team about this fight.

“I think it’s a very interesting fight,” Silva told the media on the scene (via MMAjunkie). “I talked to Nick’s manager a couple months ago, and Nick said, ‘OK, let’s go do it. Let’s talk to Dana (White).’ I’m just waiting for Dana.”

Despite this comment from Anderson Silva, however, Nick Diaz does not appear interested in this rematch. In fact, he doesn’t want to fight at all. He just wants to party. At least, that’s what he claimed in a recent post to his Instagram story.

“Look bro, we’re getting drunk right now,” Diaz said. “F*** all this – I don’t want to hurt nobody.”

“I just want to party,” he continued after guzzling back a swig of Jose Cuervo tequila.

Nick Diaz has not fought since his fight with Anderson Silva, which was originally ruled a decision win for Silva, but was later overturned when Diaz tested positive for marijuana metabolites and Silva tested positive for drostanolone.

While buzz about Diaz’s potential comeback remains high to this day, his friend and teammate Gilbert Melendez recently explained that the former Strikeforce welterweight champ is retired.

“Our boy, Nick, he’s been retired,” Melendez said on the You’re Welcome podcast. “I would love to see him come back, but last time I checked, he’s retired. I know If anyone could come back and do it and stay on track and everything, it’s him. I’d love to see him one day, if the fight is right, I think he’ll come back out, and if the contract’s right I think he’ll come back out. But last I’ve heard, he’s hung it up.”
