Tomorrow night, the UFC will take over Portland’s Moda Center with UFC Fight Night 96.
Portland’s main event honors will be held by former flyweights John Dodson and John Lineker, both of whom have recently found new life at bantamweight. Dodson, who twice fought for the title at flyweight, will look to build on the momentum of a recent TKO defeat of Manny Gamburyan, which marked his successful return to the bantamweight division. Lineker, meanwhile, will look to make it 4-0 at bantamweight, having subbed Francisco Rivera, decisioned Rob Font and knocked out Michael MacDonald since leaving the flyweight division.
The evening’s co-main event, meanwhile, will see former Bellator lightweight champion Will Brooks take on the dangerous Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira. Brooks will enter the bout having made a successful UFC debut against Ross Pearson in July. Oliveira, meanwhile, will look to build on the momentum of a recent domination of a game James Moontasri.
The main card will also feature a lightweight scrap between Joshua Burkman and Zak Ottow, and a flyweight scrap between rising Hawaiian contender Louis Smolka and Brandon Morena, who stepped in to replace an injured Sergio Pettis on short notice.
In advance of this card, the fighters listed above and the 16 others that populate the undercard took to the scales to weigh in for battle. Unfortunately, the event was marred by a number of high profile weigh-in misses as Lineker missed his mark by half a pound, Oliveira was over the lightweight cap by a whopping 5.5 pounds, and Hacran Dias missed weight for his undercard featherweight bout with Andre Fili by 2.5 pounds.
It’s worth noting that with this latest weigh-in hiccup, Lineker has now missed more weight than any fighter in UFC history, having now failed to do so five times.
