Things are always changing around in the MMA world. And even if someone already has a fight lined up…a new one can be presented!
Which is now the case for UFC welterweight Neil Magny who was supposed to be taking on Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira at UFC Sao Paulo on September 22nd.
However, a main event and opponent was needed for the UFC’s very first visit to Argentina. The obvious candidate for the headliner was always Argentina’s finest fighter, top-ranked contender Santiago Ponzinibbio. And that will be the case.
Combate has reported that Magny and Ponzibbio will meet at the said event on November 17th.
It’s been quite a while since we have seen Ponzinibbio compete in the Octagon. His last fight came in December when he defeated Mike Perry by unanimous decision thus extending his current streak to six.
Ponzinibbio was supposed to take on Kamaru Usman in May as the main event of UFC Chile, but Ponzinibbio was forced out due to injury.
As for Magny, he last fought at UFC London where he was supposed to take on Gunnar Nelson before Nelson was forced out of his bout as well. Magny would instead take on the newcomer Craig White who he would defeat via second-round TKO.
The win put Magny on his first winning streak since 2016 where he had wins over the likes of Hector Lombard, Kelvin Gastelum, and Erick Silva.
UFC Buenos Aires is still a few months away so the card is continuing to really take shape. Here are the other two fights that take place on the card as of right now:
Strawweight – 115lbs: Poliana Botelho vs. Cynthia Calvillo
Middleweight – 185lbs: Cezar Ferreira vs. Tom Breese
