Yesterday evening news surfaced that UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier had been forced to withdraw from his UFC 197 title fight with Jon Jones due to an injury.
While there was much speculation as to whether the UFC would find a replacement opponent for Jones, or re-schedule Jones vs. Cormier II for a later date, we now have our answer!
Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson has stepped in on short notice to fight Jones in the main event of UFC 197 on April 23rd according to Ariel Helwani, who retweeted a Tweet from Jon Jones PR Rep, which confirmed the news in a Tweet which has since been deleted.
Jones and Johnson were scheduled to fight once before at UFC 187, however Jones was ultimately pulled from the card and stripped of his light heavyweight championship.
If this is indeed true, stay tuned for an official announcement from the UFC shortly.
When the pair finally meet inside the Octagon at UFC 197 on April 23rd, who do you think leaves victorious?
Jones PR Rep has since revealed why she deleted her Tweet, apologizing to UFC fans for jumping the gun.
Jumped the gun . So sorry @UFC fans . No definite opponent yet .
