Shortly after he shocked the world be yanking the title from the waist of dominating UFC flyweight sensation Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson, Henry Cejudo called for a champion vs. champion fight with bantamweight champ TJ Dillashaw.
Speaking at the UFC 227 post-fight press conference, Dillashaw responded to this ballsy callout from the new flyweight champion Henry Cejudo.
“I don’t really think the guy would deserve it,” Dillashaw said of Cejudo’s call for a bantamweight title super fight (via MMAjunkie).
“Shoot, man, why don’t we bring on Brock Lesnar?” Dillashaw added jokingly.
Dillashaw then elaborated on why he feels Henry Cejudo is getting a little ahead of himself. He referenced the flyweight champ’s recent decision loss to Joseph Benavidez, and addressed the possibility of a rematch between Cejudo and Johnson.
“I mean, Joseph Benavidez just beat him,” Dillashaw said. “Yeah, [Benavidez] lost a split decision to [Sergio] Pettis, but I didn’t agree with that loss. So I think there’s a lot of stuff there, and he’s possibly got a trilogy with [Demetrious Johnson]. I’m open to whatever, though. I’m not stepping away from a challenge, that’s for sure.”
UFC President Dana White also addressed Cejudo’s callout of TJ Dillashaw. Like Dillashaw, he seemed a little hesitant with respect to this fight and admitted he’ll have to think about it.
“I don’t know what the fight to make is right now for these two, but we’ll see,” White said.
Henry Cejudo is now 1-1 with the former champion Demetrious Johnson. He lost the first fight by first-round knockout, and won the second by split decision. Given that Johnson had previously defended the title 11-straight times, and that he’s far and away the biggest name in the flyweight division, the chances of an immediate rematch between the two would seem to very high.
