Glover Teixeira out of UFC Sao Paulo main event vs Jimi Manuwa

UFC Sao Paulo main event, Jimi Manuwa, Glover Teixeira

Before we could really even get all too excited about it, UFC Sao Paulo in September has already lost its main event due to injury.

It was recently announced that the headliner for the September 22nd event would be a light heavyweight scrap between Jimi Manuwa and Brazil’s Glover Teixeira.

Unfortunately, it has now been reported by Ariel Helwani that Teixeira has suffered a shoulder injury that he’s apparently been dealing with since his fight with Jon Jones and been forced out of the bout. There is no word on any replacements yet.

Glover Teixeira is out of the Sept. 21 UFC São Paulo main event versus Jimi Manuwa due to injury, according to multiple sources. Story coming shortly to @espn.

Manuwa last fought at UFC London in March when he suffered defeat in his wild fight of the night rematch with Jan Blachowicz. The loss extended his losing streak to two as he lost to Volkan Oezdemir prior to this.

This bout with Teixeira was set to be Manuwa’s third UFC main event in his career but now it remains to be seen if that will still be the case.

Manuwa has been hoping for a fight with Teixeira for some time now but it just hasn’t come together.

There are some options at 205 for replacements already on the card’s lineup. But whether or not the UFC will want to move them up will be the question. Take a look at what remains on tap for UFC Sao Paulo.
