Georges St-Pierre fights Michael Bisping for the middleweight title

Earlier this week it was announced that former UFC welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre would be returning to the octagon to take on current UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping.

Georges St-Pierre has not competed inside the cage since scoring a split-decision victory over Jonhy Hendricks in the main event of UFC 167 in November of 2013, thus retaining his welterweight strap in the process.

Following his victory over “Bigg Rigg”, the Canadian superstar announced that he would be relinquishing his title and taking time away from the sport of mixed martial arts.

Meanwhile, Michael Bisping captured the UFC’s coveted middleweight title this past June at UFC 199 in Los Angeles after scoring a first-round knockout victory over Luke Rockhold.

“The Count” would then defend his strap against mixed martial arts legend Dan Henderson at UFC 204 in Manchester, earning a hard-fought decision victory.

During today’s “Bisping vs. St-Pierre press conference” in Las Vegas, the former long time UFC welterweight champion explained his decision to return to the cage against “The Count”.

Michael Bisping was quick to take shots at his newly announced opponent stating that “Rush” was simply a good athlete but not a real fighter.

Bisping and St-Pierre would square off for the first time at the press conferences conclusion.
