EXCLUSIVE | Coach Andre Pederneiras discusses Jose Aldo’s upcoming fight with Jeremy Stephens

Jose Aldo

Former UFC featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo will make his return to the octagon at next weekend’s UFC on FOX event in Calgary, Alberta.

Jose Aldo will be squaring off with heavy handed Jeremy Stephen’s at Saturday’s UFC on FOX 30 event, which airs live from the Scotiabank Saddledome.

The 31-year-old is coming off back-to-back setbacks to current UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway which occurred at UFC 212 and UFC 218 respectively.

Aldo’s last win came at UFC 200 in July of 2016 when he defeated Frankie Edgar via unanimous decision to claim the promotions interim featherweight title.

Despite Jose’s recent skid, his long time coach Andre Pederneiras believes Aldo will return to form when he squares off with “Lil Heathen” in Calgary.

“Jose Aldo’s training has been really good,” Pederneiras told BJPENN.com’s Chris Taylor at the Nova Uniao World Training Seminar. “He’s been training hard for three months now. We our very prepared for this fight with Stephens.”

Pedernairas continued:

“He’s training very hard for this fight. He is incredibly motivated. He feels very good and healthy. You will see a great Jose Aldo next week.”

Taylor asked the long time Nova Uniao coach if fans should expect Jose Aldo to utilize his kicks at UFC on FOX 30, something he really didn’t do in his fights with Holloway.

“I think in those fights (with Max Holloway), Aldo just trained to much boxing. He was so focused on the boxing that he forgot about some of his best strikes. Now he is back to doing Muay Thai and training more kicks. So yes, I think you will see a lot more kicks in this fight.” Andre stated with a smile.
