The octagon will return to Madison Square Garden Arena next month for the promotions UFC 230: Daniel Cormier vs. Derrick Lewis pay-per-view event.
The UFC 230 fight card, which takes place November 3 in New York City, is headlined by a heavyweight title fight featuring reigning champion Daniel Cormier taking on surging division contender Derrick Lewis.
The fight card was originally slated to feature Nate Diaz vs. Dustin Poirier as it’s co-headliner. Unfortunately for fight fans however, “The Diamond” was forced to withdraw from the contest due to a hip injury.
Following the removal of Diaz vs. Poirier from UFC 230, the promotion announced that a rematch between former UFC middleweight champions Chris Weidman and Luke Rockhold would now serve as the evenings co-main event.
That announcement did not last long, as shortly after news broke that Luke Rockhold had suffered an injury and would no longer be able to compete against Weidman on November 3.
With that being said, the promotion was then forced to pull Jacare Souza from his scheduled bout with David Branch, and move the Brazilian into the co-main event of UFC 230 opposite Chris Weidman.
Jared Cannonier is now expected to replace Jacare Souza against David Branch at Madison Square Garden (Update: Branch vs. Cannonier is now official).
