Joe Rogan pleads with UFC to stop Cyborg from ‘torturing herself’ and open a women’s featherweight division

Invicta champion

The biggest story leading up to UFC Fight Night 95 in Brazil was regarding Cris Cyborg’s drastic weight cut to make 140 pounds for her catchweight bout against Lina Lansberg.

The Invicta featherweight champion had to drop an additional five pounds below her usual cut to 145 in order to make the catchweight limit and had to cut 25 pounds in less than a week.

Cyborg ended up making weight and put on another dominating performance at UFC Fight Night 95. The Brazilian champion controlled the first round against Lansberg and landed some big shots both standing and on the ground.

The fight would come to an end in the second round when the referee stopped the fight after Cyborg delivered some heavy ground and pound. Referee Mario Yamasaki saw enough with Lansberg not intelligently defending herself from the offense of Cyborg.

Immediately following the main event between Cyborg and Lansberg, UFC commentator Joe Rogan took to twitter to plead with the UFC to open up a women’s featherweight division.

Rogan tweeted the following:

“@ufc please open up a 145lbs division for @criscyborg. Her torturing herself to make 140 is insane and she’s incredibly entertaining.”

“Women’s MMA is growing in leaps and bounds and it would be amazing if there were more weight classes.”

“I think that if the @UFC opened up more WMMA divisions the level of talent in each division would grow like it has in new men’s divisions.”

“The level of talent in each division seems to rise to the standard of the champion. @criscyborg is a killer and would be a fierce champion.”

“Obviously this is all just my opinion. @UFC is awesome and it’ll all get sorted out eventually. I just had to chirp. I hate hard weight cuts”

While UFC President recently stated that he had no plans for a women’s featherweight division with the UFC in the near future, Joe Rogan is definitely a good voice to at least bring up the idea once again.
