The war of words between UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor, and undefeated prize fighter Floyd Mayweather continued this week when Mayweather took verbal blows at McGregor during a live video streaming.
Earlier this year, after McGregor was pulled from his UFC 200 headlining scrap against Nate Diaz, there were rumors of McGregor making the move to boxing for a boxing match with the legend Floyd Mayweather. While the talks began as hypotheticals, things progressed to the point of Fox Sports 1 host Colin Cowherd even going as far as to announce the date of the potential boxing match. Ultimately of course, McGregor and the UFC worked things out, and the Irish superstar returned to the Octagon to face Nate Diaz at UFC 202, where he avenged his loss at UFC 196.
Following his win over Diaz, McGregor made the jump to lightweight, where he fought Eddie Alvarez for the UFC lightweight championship at the UFC’s historic UFC 205 card. Prior to that fight however, McGregor once again brought up the possibility of making the jump to boxing to fight Mayweather. Following his win over Alvarez, McGregor and Mayweather once again continued their war of words.
In his most recent video streaming session, Mayweather stated:
“I don’t give a fuck what night it was, I ain’t never taking no L. I’ll f–k McGregor up too. That punk ass McGregor. I’m a slap McGregor, I’m a slap the s–t out of McGregor when I see him.”
That likely won’t sit too well with the “champ champ” who recently explained in an interview why he would be able to not only defeat, but knock out Mayweather:
“With the work ethic that I have, focused solely on the sport of boxing, there’s no telling what I could do. I would not go in there just to show up, I’d go in there to knock him (Floyd Mayweather) out, and that’s it. He can be hit. He’s been hit before. Age waits for no man also, so I know they know that. I know the size is on my side, I know the reach is on my side, I know the youth is on my side.”
