This past weekend at UFC 199, Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber had their highly anticipated trilogy fight nearly a decade after their first meeting in the WEC banner. Cruz ended up dominating the fight from start to finish, securing numerous takedowns, and even dropping Faber several times.
After the fight Faber revealed that while he wasn’t ready to commit to retirement, he was going to take some time away from MMA. In addition, Faber told the world to watch out for some up-and-coming fighters out of his gym, including Cody Garbrandt.
Garbrandt is fresh off a KO win over Thomas Almeida last month, where he continued his undefeated streak, and made his debut on the bantamweight rankings.
At UFC 199 he didn’t shy away from taking a verbal jab at Cruz. MMAJunkie has the transcription:
“Dominick is a (expletive),”
“He’s trying to put a fight between me and Faber, because he’s scared to fight me,” said Garbrandt, who was at the event as a UFC guest. “He knows I’d knock him out. I’m already in the champ’s head.”
