UFC featherweight champion and long-time division ruler, Jose Aldo, appears to be lightweight-bound, this after defeating Ricardo Lamas 49-46 on each of the judges scorecards at UFC 169 in Newark, N.J. yesterday evening.<\/p>\n

\u201cScarface\u201d stated his desire to fight the UFC\u2019s lightweight champion, Anthony Pettis,\u00a0at last night\u2019s post-fight press conference:<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s not about me, it\u2019s about Dana [White] and Lorenzo [Fertitta],” <\/em>Aldo said. “I\u2019ve always been ready, I want that fight. Everybody wants that fight. If the fight was tonight, I\u2019d fight him. So it\u2019s up to UFC and Dana.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

UFC President Dana White then weighed-in on the topic, giving his stamp of approval\u00a0for the potential \u201cSuper fight\u201d between \u201cScarface\u201d and \u201cShowtime.\u201d<\/p>\n

“Yeah, I mean, I\u2019ve been talking about that fight. I like that fight, I like Jose at 155,” <\/em>White stated. “I think the weight cut\u2019s much easier for him, but again, I\u2019m going to throw it back at him. He\u2019s the king at 145. If he wants to move to 155 it\u2019s a huge fight with Anthony Pettis. Yeah, it doesn\u2019t suck.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Aldo then committed to the \u201cSuper fight\u201d by saying:<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s not only about me, I want the fight, the fans want the fight. So why not?” <\/em>he said. “We\u2019re ready to fight, so let\u2019s get this fight.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Which led to the following\u00a0response from the UFC President:<\/p>\n

“Sounds like we got a fight. There you go,” <\/em>White responded. “That was easy. Got that deal done. One more thing I don\u2019t have to do on Monday.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It was following Aldo\u2019s decision victory over former lightweight champ Frankie Edgar at UFC 156, that UFC president Dana White would receive a text message from 155er Anthony Pettis, who requested a drop down in weight-class in order to face \u201cScarface.\u201d<\/p>\n

UFC officials would then set-up the highly touted fight between Aldo and Pettis for last summers UFC 163 event in Brazil. However, Pettis suffered a knee injury, that would ultimately doom the fight and Aldo would instead\u00a0battle the \u201cKorean Zombie\u201d Chan Sung Jung, whom he defeated by way of TKO in front of his fellow countrymen.<\/p>\n

Anthony Pettis would return from injury to face then lightweight champion, Benson Henderson, at the UFC 164 event in \u201cShowtime\u2019s\u201d hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Pettis would\u00a0once again\u00a0defeat \u201cSmooth,\u201d this time by first-round submission, thus capturing the UFC\u2019s lightweight strap.<\/p>\n

Now, Aldo would be\u00a0vying for Pettis\u2019 belt. Pettis, once again, called White during the press conference and\u00a0told him\u00a0he wanted the Aldo fight. When asked how it would ultimately work, as to whether or not Aldo would have to\u00a0vacate the featherweight\u00a0title, White stated the following:<\/p>\n

“I can answer that question: The answer is yes,” <\/em>White said. “[Aldo] would vacate the title, move up to 155, fight for the title. If he didn\u2019t win the title at 155 he could go back and challenge for the 145-pound title again if he wanted to do that. Or, if he wins the 155-pound title, then two other guys would fight for the 145-pound title.”<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
