It was a <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/jared-gordon\/pros-react-after-paddy-pimblett-wins-decision-over-jared-gordon-at-ufc-282-a-terrible-night-for-the-integrity-of-the-sport\/\">controversial decision<\/a> win for the Liverpudlian which extended his undefeated record to 4-0 within the promotion.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the bout, Paddy Pimblett invited UFC President Dana White to his podcast, &#8216;Chattin Pony&#8217;, and the two of them took aim at long time MMA reporter Ariel Helwani. During the podcast the 40 year old Canadian was labeled a &#8216;rodent&#8217; who&#8217;s been fired from &#8216;every good job he&#8217;s ever had&#8217;. It was also implied that the journalist profits from fighter interviews.<\/p>\n<p>It has been no secret that Dana White is not a fan of Helwani and has in the past tried to have him removed from ESPN.<\/p>\n<p>Helwani took issue with the podcast and defended himself pointing out the inaccuracies and providing evidence to dispute claims made by both White and Pimblett.<\/p>\n<p>Paddy Pimblett has since doubled down on the same accusations in his post-fight interview at UFC 282.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-464922\" src=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Paddy-Pimblett-2.jpg\" alt=\"Paddy Pimblett\" width=\"700\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Paddy-Pimblett-2.jpg 700w, https:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Paddy-Pimblett-2-300x171.jpg 300w, https:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Paddy-Pimblett-2-696x398.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Well apparently the saga is continuing and Helwani is wanting to set the record straight.<\/p>\n<p>In speaking on &#8216;The MMA Hour&#8217;, the 40 year old Helwani had this to say:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;In the spirit of not letting the bullies win\u2026 not letting the lies prevail, letting the truth prevail, I do feel there are a few things I need to address. On the Thursday afterwards, the next day\u2026 Paddy did a couple other interviews\u2026 I just didn\u2019t like that he was doubling and tripling down on the lies. He continued to lie. He continued to double and triple down on what he said, which I had proved quite extensively was not the truth.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Continuing Helwani said he has never asked the fighter to drop anything to appear on his show, paid or otherwise (h\/t <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmanews.com\/2022\/12\/ariel-helwani-paddy-pimblett-double-down\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MMANews<\/a>):<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThat\u2019s not true. I never asked him to drop anything that was paid or not paid. I never asked them to cancel anything. I was just trying to find my spot after, again, they reached out to me. I have never told someone to drop an interview to go on my show.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWhat are we doing now? You\u2019re lying, I\u2019m lying. One guy showed facts, had receipts, had everything to back it up, and the other guy didn\u2019t. He got his timelines wrong, made up stuff\u2026 what are we doing here?&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Speaking of Pimblett&#8217;s team addressing the controversy after the fight, Helwani said:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThey said they\u2019re gonna address it after the fight. I can\u2019t wait. Where do we wanna go? Screen grab for screen grab? What are you gonna address? You\u2019re gonna continue to make up stuff?. Can\u2019t wait. I invite it. You do it on your channel, I\u2019ll do it on my channel.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Further clarifying the potential interview, Helwani stated:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;He didn\u2019t say, \u2018Have a drink,\u2019 or anything on that voice memo either. What about when I came back and was like, \u2018Wanna come in studio?\u2019 None of them were like, \u2018No, no, no, we\u2019re not talking about an interview, we\u2019re just hanging out.\u2019 Did they want me to put together a budget for a dinner date? Everything we spoke about was for an interview.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Pimblett did accuse the Canadian journalist of requesting that he abandon a paid interview in order to be featured on his show instead. Helwani claims that was an outright lie.<\/p>\n<p>Helwani advised Pimblett is playing the &#8216;victim&#8217; card:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cHe\u2019s trying to do the old, \u2018I\u2019m the victim here,\u2019 even though they brought it up, they started it, they\u2019re the ones that talked about private conversations. I\u2019m the victim here, I was stabbed in the back, he\u2019s the bad guy,\u2019 when in reality, I\u2019ve never said anything bad about him publicly.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThis whole thing of him trying to make himself out to be the victim\u2026 I hate to say it, it\u2019s a little bit sad. It\u2019s disappointing. Why don\u2019t we just let this die? \u2026 How much more can I show? How much more can I prove?\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Stay tuned.
