The Stockton native has fought out of his UFC contract and he revealed his plan to fight outside of the promotion for a little while, but he vowed to eventually return.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what Coker initially told media members.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bbc-hhl7in e17g058b0\" dir=\"ltr\"><em>\u201cWe are definitely talking to him. We\u2019ve reached out,\u201d Coker\u00a0said\u00a0about Diaz. \u201cBut I\u2019m sure he\u2019s talking to everybody, he\u2019s in a pretty good situation. I\u00a0know he wants to fight Jake Paul, who is fighting Anderson Silva on Showtime pay-per-view \u2013 which is our home network \u2013 so there\u2019s some synergies here.\u00a0We\u2019re just hoping that we could have some type of deal to at least have his MMA fights with Bellator, so we are in dialogue.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Bellator boss cleared things up following Bellator 285, revealing to reporters that he was told Diaz still has a negotiation clause with the UFC until December (h\/t <a href=\"https:\/\/mmajunkie.usatoday.com\/2022\/09\/bellator-news-scott-coker-discovers-nate-diaz-in-exclusive-ufc-negotiation-period\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MMAJunkie<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWell, here\u2019s the thing, is that my guys reached out to the management and the management came back and said, \u2018Look, he still has an exclusive negotiation period,&#8217;\u201d Coker told reporters at the Bellator 285 post-event news conference. \u201cSo, let\u2019s see how that plays out.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Diaz is coming off a submission victory over <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/fighters\/tony-ferguson\/\">Tony Ferguson<\/a> at UFC 279 on September 10. It was Diaz&#8217;s first win since 2019. The win improved his pro MMA record to 21-13. His record under the UFC banner sits at 16-11.<\/p>\n<p>Diaz has said he wants to explore different martial arts sports if he truly becomes a free agent.
