\nMichael Bisping has had his eyes set on UFC gold since entering the UFC’s Octagon.<\/p>\n

He now has a fight scheduled with a former champion and number one contender, Vitor Belfort.<\/p>\n

For Bisping the unknown future of Anderson Silva and talks of super fights outside of the division are enough reason to ask for an interim title to be put up for grabs in the UFC’s middleweight division.<\/p>\n

He took to his personal blog at Bisping.tv<\/a> to make the case:<\/p>\n

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I had no idea this was such a huge holiday over here until I moved to Orange Country a year ago.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve got a lot to be thankful for, but the news that broke today that Chris Weidman is out for six months has really put a downer on the entire middleweight division.<\/p>\n

I feel really bad for him, especially as he\u2019s already had a massively crappy month with Hurricane Sandy destroying his house. I bet he was really looking forward to a payday, and it\u2019s always bad when an athlete is kept from making a living due to injuries. Never really met the guy, but of course I hope he makes a fast recovery.<\/p>\n

Myself and Weidman are the No1 and No2 contenders to Anderson Silva\u2019s middleweight title.<\/p>\n

And, yep, in that damn order!<\/p>\n

But Weidman is now out for up to six months and Anderson won\u2019t be fighting until May \u2013 and even then it looks like it won\u2019t be a middleweight title defense. According to my boss and their boss \u2013 Mr Dana F White – Anderson and GSP will have a super-fight in May and who knows what happens then? Anderson could win and then fight Jon Jones at light heavyweight in September and go the entire year \u2013 18months and more \u2013 since defending the middleweight belt.<\/p>\n

Or GSP could win or Anderson get hurt\u2026 the fight could even be moved to mid-summer for venue reasons\u2026 a million things could happen even when we get to May. Meanwhile, the middleweight division is in a complete holding pattern.<\/p>\n

You know where I\u2019m going with this\u2026 me vs Vitor Belfort in Brazil in January should be for the Interim Middleweight Title.<\/p>\n

I think almost all the fans would agree that the middleweight division is hotter than it has ever been right now. I\u2019m at the top of my game, you had Weidman getting some serious momentum, Alan Belcher \u2013 when he is healthy \u2013 is as good as anyone at 185lbs in spite of that abomination on his arm, Cung Le has just KO\u2019d the former champion Rich Franklin in one round, Tim Boetsch is there, Mark Munoz, Brian Stann, Chris Leben and the poison dwarf Lombard are all in the mix and then you\u2019ve got Vitor Belfort who is back at his real weight class after almost snapping Jon Jones\u2019s arm in half on two weeks\u2019 notice.<\/p>\n

On top of that it looks like the Strikeforce guys are coming in shortly, too.<\/p>\n

As it stands, the middleweight division\u2019s champion has no plans whatsoever to defend his belt until at least the end of next summer\u2026<\/p>\n

With Weidman out, I think me vs Vitor is a worthy Interim Title fight. Way more worthy than Urijah Favor\u2019s 2354987th title shot and, and I would defend my Interim Title against all-comers and keep the division moving. And I think I can speak for Vitor, too, because if he kicks my arse in January, he will defend the belt too.<\/p>\n

So\u2026 let\u2019s kick off 2013 \u2013 which I think is going to be a huge year for the185lbs \u2013 with an Interim Title fight on FX.<\/p>\n
