Dana White believes Amanda Nunes ‘looked a little gun-shy’ in the UFC rematch with Julianna Pena.<\/p>\n

It was Amanda Nunes (22-5 MMA) vs Julianna Pena (12-5 MMA) last Saturday, July 30th in the women’s bantamweight main event at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.<\/p>\n

Nunes was aiming to de-throne Pena to win back her title and that is exactly what she did. It was a hard fought battle and a unanimous decision win for ‘The Lioness<\/a>‘.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the media following UFC 277, the UFC president, while showering Nunes with praise also had this to say:<\/p>\n

\u201cI think two things: Julianna\u2019s tough as nails and her will to win was second to none. She wanted to win. I think as dominant as Amanda was \u2014 and she was dominant tonight, I didn\u2019t think it was close any way, shape, or form, it was a complete shutout \u2014 but she still looked a little gun-shy to me. Going in against the person who beat you the first time, I could see that happening.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Continuing Dana White said (h\/t MMAFighting<\/a>):<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, it\u2019s stupid for me to even say that. It was an absolutely dominant performance.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Discussing Nunes strategy, White concluded with:<\/p>\n

\u201cI think she was concerned about her cardio probably, because when you think about the way that she fought (Cris) Cyborg, she usually throws tons of punches. She had Julianna hurt many times, had her on crazy legs a couple of times, and never really went in for the kill.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cShe could have, but she didn\u2019t. There\u2019s a big difference between submission attempts and knockdowns. It\u2019s not even comparable.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

It was at UFC 269 in December of 2021 that Nunes and Pena first fought. The outcome being a huge upset for Nunes, with Pena finishing her with a rear-naked choke in the second round and capturing the bantamweight title.<\/p>\n

As for what is next Nunes, it could be a trilogy fight with Pena or perhaps a trilogy fight with Valentina Shevchenko (23-3 MMA) in a flyweight bout. But for now, Nunes is looking to take some well deserved time off.<\/p>\n
