Charles Oliveira is willing to start his title fight with Islam Makhachev off of his back.<\/p>\n

UFC 280 will be headlined by Charles Oliveira (33-8 MMA) vs Islam Makhachev (22-1 MMA) at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The currently vacant lightweight championship title will be decided on Saturday, October 22nd.<\/p>\n

In speaking on an episode of ‘MMA Fighting<\/a>‘ podcast ‘<\/em>Troca\u00e7\u00e3o Franca‘,<\/em> Oliveira spoke about his upcoming fight with Islam Makhachev saying:<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to his home, where they wanted the fight, where they think they will beat me. I know I\u2019m the biggest problem of this division. No one\u2019s dumb, right? Every guy Islam fought was a striker and he took them down, and I went toe to toe with every guy I fought and only took them down to make things happen after I hurt them on the feet. Islam is fighting the worst problem of the division, Charles Oliveira.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Continuing Oliveira said:<\/p>\n

\u201cWant to start the fight on the ground? I\u2019ll start playing guard. It won\u2019t make any difference to me. Again, I\u2019m telling everyone this, I\u2019m the division\u2019s biggest problem and you\u2019re not understanding. I don\u2019t care who it is and when it is. If you want to trade on the feet, come for it, I have firepower in my hands. If you want to take me down, do it.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

‘do Bronx’ spoke candidly about handling the Russian saying:<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you\u2019re fighting someone that will only take you down, you have to train what you do best. People don\u2019t get it, I don\u2019t know if they\u2019re stupid or dumb. Islam has some striking, but he takes everybody down. Every guy he\u2019s fought are strikers who were afraid of getting taken down. I\u2019m not afraid of getting taken down. Islam has a lot to worry about what he\u2019s going to do. I have no weight over me, nothing. I\u2019m 100 percent at what he does best. I have the record for most submissions in (UFC) history and I have firepower in my hands.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Continuing, explaining that ‘war is coming’, Charles Oliveira said:<\/p>\n

\u201cYou want peace? We want twice of it. You want war? War is coming, it\u2019s on October 22. \u2026 I\u2019m ready. I\u2019ll win this guy. Listen to me, I\u2019ll leave a gigantic legacy. I get near the big names of the sport and they feel bothered. Why is that? I haven\u2019t done anything. The reality is they see how much I\u2019m evolving. That\u2019s the reality. The way I talk has changed, the way I get dressed has changed, the way I arrive has changed. Everything has changed.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThe octagon is the same wherever, in a street in the favela or in Dubai or anywhere else. It\u2019s just the two of us when the cage door closes. I have all the respect in the world for Islam and his story and what he\u2019s done, but we have to weight things, the names I\u2019ve fought and the names he’s fought. It’s different already. I’m way better than him, and now we’ll see who’s the best.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Speaking of being the underdog<\/a> coming into the fight, Charles Oliveira finished with:<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very happy to be the underdog in this fight so everybody makes money. That\u2019s the reality. I get sad when I\u2019m not the underdog so people don\u2019t make money.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
