Following his fifth consecutive defense of the 170lbs title, &#8216;The Nigerian Nightmare&#8217; revealed that he was suffering from a broken hand that required surgery.<\/p>\n<p>After going under the knife, it was expected that Kamaru Usman would be ready to compete again by the summer of 2022. However, recent reports suggest that the 35-year-old Nigerian will remain on the sidelines until the fourth quarter of 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Given Usman&#8217;s lengthy absence from competition, veteran welterweight Neil Magny believes the time has come for the promotion to introduce an interim title. &#8216;The Haitian Sensation&#8217; recently sat down with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmanews.com\/2022\/06\/neil-magny-stagnant-welterweights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MMA News<\/a> where he explained his stance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the problem with the division right now, it\u2019s just so stagnant. Just keep it moving,\u201d said Magny. \u201cIt\u2019s unfortunate he got a broken hand. You (Kamaru Usman) are the pound-for-pound champ, you are the champ of the division. No one\u2019s taking that away from you. But, for the sake of keeping things moving for the rest of the division, I think doing an interim title is the right thing to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-277329\" src=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/wp-content\/uploads\/Neil-Magny-1.png\" alt=\"Neil Magny\" width=\"696\" height=\"399\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/wp-content\/uploads\/Neil-Magny-1.png 696w, https:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/wp-content\/uploads\/Neil-Magny-1-300x172.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When asked which two welterweights he thought were most deserving of competing for an interim title, Neil Magny shared the following:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I had to guess, I would definitely go Leon and Khamzat. I mean, that\u2019s the fight that make the most sense.
