John McCarthy expressed his thoughts on seeing Nick Diaz get a title fight next.<\/p>\n

McCarthy, 59, the former legendary UFC referee, during a ‘Weighing In’ podcast with Josh Thomson, discussed what he believes should be next for Nick Diaz.<\/p>\n

‘Big John’ commented that he’d like to see a BMF Championship bout between Nick Diaz (26-10 MMA) and Jorge Masvidal<\/a> (35-16 MMA):<\/p>\n

\u201cI wouldn\u2019t mind watching him fight for the title. But I said title and that doesn\u2019t mean that I am talking about the welterweight title. I could be talking about the BMF title.”<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI wouldn\u2019t mind watching him and Masvidal fight. Masvidal and his brother fought. I wouldn\u2019t mind watching, you know, Masvidal and Nick fight.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Yes, Masvidal and Nick Diaz’s brother – Nate Diaz (21-13 MMA) – did get in the cage back in November of 2019, at UFC 244. The result was Masvidal being awarded the TKO victory.<\/p>\n

Continuing, John McCarthy said:<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Nick came back to the UFC, that was the fight that they should have made right away.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Nick Diaz, 38, may want a UFC title shot but that would mean a fight with Kamaru Usman (20-1 MMA) at welterweight.<\/p>\n

McCarthy weighed in on what a battle between Usman and Diaz might look like (h\/t MMANews<\/a>):<\/p>\n

\u201cKamaru would stand with him until he starts getting lit up. Then he\u2019s going to go and use his wrestling, which he should, I\u2019m not saying he shouldn\u2019t\u2026”<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think that Kamaru would be standing up against Nick that long.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Nick Diaz made his return to MMA competition after being out of the Octagon for six years. It was in September of 2021 that he got in the cage with Robbie Lawler (29-15 MMA) at UFC 266. The result was Lawler finishing Diaz via TKO at 0:44 of Round 3, avenging a loss from 17 years ago.<\/p>\n
