UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman has shared some words of advice for Khamzat Chimaev after his UFC 273 win.<\/p>\n

It was on April 9th, 2022 that Khamzat Chimaev (11-0 MMA) defeated Gilbert Burns (20-5 MMA) to keep his winning record alive. The 27 year old Swede has become quite a fan favorite and is on the fast track in the welterweight division.<\/p>\n

In speaking with ‘TMZ<\/a>‘ about the fight and Chimaev’s success Usman had this to share:<\/p>\n

\u201cYou get a kid like this that comes in and has all this hype, and everyone is talking about him. This is great. It\u2019s great for the sport. It\u2019s great for guys like myself. It\u2019s very good.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cKhamzat coming in, he\u2019s definitely showed \u2013 he\u2019s done a great job. Props to the kid. He\u2019s done a great job with what he\u2019s been presented and the opposition. I take nothing away from him.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\"Kamaru<\/p>\n

In speaking about Chimaev’s confidence and the media surrounding the fighter, Usman continued with some advice for Khamzat:<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s the media\u2019s fault. <\/em>The media kind of builds you up, and then they drop you the moment that you don\u2019t live up to that. If I had a word of advice for him, it\u2019s just to not get caught up in that because it kind of seemed like that was starting to happen. Don\u2019t get caught up in that because not every day is your day. At one point, someone\u2019s going to come in, and it\u2019s gonna be their day.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Continuing Kamaru Usman said (h\/t MMAJunkie<\/a>):<\/p>\n

\u201cHe has gone out there, and he beat the No. 2 guy in the division. <\/em>He got the W, so it\u2019s very difficult for me to say no, he doesn\u2019t deserve anything. He\u2019s gone up against Gilbert Burns and was able to go out there and do what he needed to do. I take nothing away from him. If that\u2019s the fight then that\u2019s the fight. If that\u2019s not the fight then that\u2019s not the fight. Right now, we\u2019ve kind of got Leon Edwards sitting there.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Kamaru Usman (20-1 MMA) is expected to defend his title against Leon Edwards<\/a> (19-3 MMA) next, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be facing Chimaev down the line.<\/p>\n

Concluding, ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ said:<\/p>\n

\u201cThis kid has done a good job going out there and defeating the No. 2 guy in the division, so if that\u2019s the next fight after Edwards then that\u2019s the next fight, but Edwards is our focus right now.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
