They put on a blockbuster card stacked from head to toe with talent, and that was particularly true for the main event and co-main event of the evening.<\/p>\n<p>The final showdown of the night saw Charles Oliveira successfully defend his UFC lightweight title against Dustin Poirier in a bout that featured one of the most electric first rounds in recent memory. Prior to that, Julianna Pena shocked the mixed martial arts world by submitting Amanda Nunes to capture the UFC bantamweight championship.<\/p>\n<p>As it turns out, that kind of card was more than enough for the UFC to garner over half a million PPV buys through the ESPN+ service.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ESPNPlus?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@ESPNPlus<\/a> sold slightly more than 500,000 PPV units for <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/UFC269?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#UFC269<\/a> last month, per SBJ sources. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/EE5Yuqe7UE\">pic.twitter.com\/EE5Yuqe7UE<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Adam Stern (@A_S12) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/A_S12\/status\/1484307745620652037?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 20, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>While the nature of PPV sales in the modern age and the ESPN deal means these numbers don&#8217;t mean as much as they used to, it&#8217;s still a pretty good indicator as to how badly people wanted to see this event.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest audience for the UFC to try and capture is the casual fanbase and at <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/ufc\/ufc-269-oliveira-vs-poirier-live-results-and-highlights\/\">UFC 269<\/a>, they were treated to a whole lot of excitement.
