The result was a second round TKO victory for &#8216;The War Horse&#8217;, who destroyed the knee of Modestas with a nasty oblique kick.<\/p>\n<p>Immediately following the contest a number of UFC fighters took to social media where they called for <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mmanews\/fighters-call-for-oblique-kick-to-be-banned-after-khalil-rountree-destroys-modestas-bukauskas-knee-at-ufc-vegas-36\/\">the banning of the knee-shredding strike<\/a>. Former UFC welterweight <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ufc.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">title challenger<\/a> Dan Hardy was not among the protestors and instead believes oblique kicks are an effective technique.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIt shouldn\u2019t be banned,\u201d<\/em> Hardy told Submission Radio (transcription via Denis Shkuratov). <em>\u201cIt\u2019s an effective technique. If we start banning effective techniques, then we\u2019re going to find ourselves with a very, very limited rule set. I think that we need to recognize that it\u2019s an occupational hazard. On football fields, rugby pitches, up and down, around the world on a weekend basis, people are getting their knees destroyed in the same way that Modestas did. It happens very rarely in MMA. For every now and then when they do land, there\u2019s so many times when they don\u2019t. It\u2019s one of those techniques that\u2019s very difficult to land. It\u2019s more beneficial to throw it earlier in the fight when the leg\u2019s a bit dryer and those kind of things, but it\u2019s such a difficult thing to land in the first place, if you can stop a fight with it, then well done. I have no problem with it.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Dan Hardy believes fighters are made well aware of risks, claiming that &#8216;death waivers&#8217; are required to be signed prior to competition.<\/p>\n<p id=\"9JEnyQ\"><em>\u201cWe say it all the time, it\u2019s not a tickling contest. You\u2019re trying to take each other out. A knee injury is the least of your worries in there when you\u2019ve got people throwing elbows and knees and spinning kicks at your head. Like, don\u2019t complain about fighter safety and talk about knee injuries, cause people from all over sports that suffer knee injuries all the time are not complaining. It\u2019s a silly thing to talk about.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The Outlaw&#8217; continued:<\/p>\n<p id=\"5PNvuT\"><em>\u201cI can\u2019t even believe that it\u2019s been brought up as something that we should consider banning. It fries my brain. Honestly, it does. And the fact that professional fighters would come out and say it, you\u2019re in the wrong sport. You\u2019re doing the wrong thing if you\u2019re concerned about picking up a knee injury. You know what you\u2019re doing when you get in there. You sign a death waiver when you\u2019re stepping in there to fight.
