Looking sharper than ever, Tate managed to outstrike and outgrapple her opponent en route to a third-round TKO and earn a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless, fighter pay remains an issue even for legends in the sport.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy whole fight purse was gone; show and win, for this fight,\u201d Tate told said on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MMAonSiriusXM\/status\/1428188640887328770?s=19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MMA on Sirius<\/a> (h\/t <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloodyelbow.com\/2021\/8\/19\/22632931\/ufc-miesha-tate-talks-mma-return-training-expenses-taxes-fighter-pay-news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bloody Elbow<\/a>). \u201cI at least spent, it had to be about 98 percent at least. So, maybe I walked away with a little bit. But, out of $200,000? Yeah, I\u2019m just lucky I made a bonus, to be honest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m serious, that\u2019s how much it costs. Because you take taxes off the top. 70 percent of my fight purse is gone immediately, right off the top. So I have 30 percent to work with. And that 30 percent I take to buy my organic foods, to get my \u2013 whatever \u2013 training gear, heart rate monitors, whatever other things that I need to invest in to make the camp go well. And it\u2019s expensive. You know, it\u2019s very expensive to eat like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Miesha Tate, 35, captured the UFC title in March 2016 with a huge fifth-round rear-naked choke submission comeback win over Holly Holm. In her fight that followed, she and <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/amanda-nunes\/amanda-nunes-hoping-for-ufc-womens-bantamweight-title-defense-against-julianna-pena-before-december\/\">Amanda Nunes<\/a> headlined UFC 200 where Tate made <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmamania.com\/2016\/7\/11\/12150446\/ufc-200-payouts-brock-lesnar-bags-2-5-million-mark-hunt-700k-mma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$500,000<\/a> in defeat \u2013 the challenging Nunes made $100,000.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very expensive to just facilitate the things that I need to do&#8230;travel to training different places,\u201d Tate said. \u201cEspecially when you have your head coach is remote, is in Spokane, you know? So I fly him down, fly him back. Flying out to Denver to go and train with Trevor Wittman, getting to Southern California to train with Treigning Labs; all the supplements I\u2019ve had to invest in, and things like that as well. It\u2019s just, yeah, it\u2019s a lot more expensive than people would think. It\u2019s not as glorious.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd that\u2019s why it\u2019s like, you cannot set out to do this for the money. And if you really want to be the best, investing in yourself is pricey. It\u2019s very, very, very pricey. But, I\u2019m doubling down on myself, because I know the money is when you have the belt, when you get those pay-per-view dollars. That\u2019s real money, then we\u2019re talking. The rest of this fighting stuff is just, like, we\u2019re not making a killing, you know? We\u2019re not making a killing.
