Speaking on Sirius XM&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MMAonSiriusXM\/status\/1417561728259395584\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fight Nation<\/a>, Smith was asked about the reports of McGregor being hurt coming into the fight. For Smith, being injured is something that all MMA fighters have to deal with, and he believes that it&#8217;s not a valid excuse for McGregor.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/MMAonSiriusXM\/status\/1417561728259395584<\/p>\n<p id=\"4SOwhX\">\u201cI would say Conor wasn\u2019t any more hurt than Dustin was going into that fight. That\u2019s not me saying Conor wasn\u2019t banged up or his legs weren\u2019t bothering him or his shin wasn\u2019t cracked up or whatever, but he wasn\u2019t any more injured than Dustin Poirier was. That\u2019s my perspective at it from an athlete,&#8221; Smith said (h\/t <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmafighting.com\/2021\/7\/21\/22586584\/morning-report-anthony-smith-conor-mcgregor-pre-fight-injury-talk-his-excuses-are-very-invalid-to-me\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MMAFighting.com<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p id=\"OuCToP\">\u201cIt\u2019s easy for a fan or someone who has never done it to say, \u2018Oh, he was hurt.\u2019 We\u2019re all hurt. Every single one of us, every single time we fight. There\u2019s not one person that can ever say they go in 100 percent healthy,&#8221; Smith said. &#8220;So his excuses are very invalid to me. To the general public, it makes sense that they people would buy into that excuse but Conor knows that all of us don\u2019t buy it because we\u2019re all hurt too. That\u2019s how I look at it, but he\u2019s not lobbying to us. It\u2019s to the general public, the buyers, the PPV buyers. Those are the people he needs to convince but he knows he\u2019s never gonna convince us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone who loses has an excuse,&#8221; continued Smith. &#8220;It\u2019s new for Conor to be like that. I\u2019m not the excuses guy but in my circle, all my friends know what\u2019s going on. They know pre and they know post. Like, \u2018I know you\u2019re never gonna say this but what was going on here? I know you\u2019ll never say this publicly because you don\u2019t make excuses.\u2019 And I\u2019ll absolutely tell my friends what\u2019s going on. Knew that my hand was broken going into the Glover (Teixeira) fight and I never said anything about it because it\u2019s not an excuse. Glover probably had a broken hand.
