UFC middleweight Markus Perez took the unusual approach of asking the UFC to cut him, telling the promotion to “send him away.”<\/p>\n

Perez, whose nickname “Maluko” (Crazy)<\/a>, is a former LFA middleweight champion and a seven-fight veteran of the UFC. After going 2-2 in his first four UFC fights, he has since lost three in a row including suffering the first KO loss of his career when Dricus du Plessis flattened him cold. With the UFC matchmakers in the midst of cutting 60 fighters<\/a>, anyone on a three-fight losing skid such as Perez is at risk of being released. In Perez’s case, he’s making it easy and asking the UFC to cut him.<\/p>\n

Speaking to AG Fight<\/a>, Perez pleaded with the UFC to release him. The Brazilian said he doesn’t deserve to be a member of the promotion and said he wants to be cut.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy situation is delicate, but I am not afraid. I even think the UFC should fire me. I wouldn’t think a guy with two wins and five losses would be right and be in there taking the chance of fighters who are fighting well. I don’t deserve to be in the UFC right now. I didn’t deserve it. The UFC should send me away. I have to leave, solve my problems, print new victories to return. Then I can say that I’m going to start my life in here. They didn’t say anything to me, but I’m sure (I’ll be fired). I didn’t show who I am,” Perez.<\/p>\n

It’s not often you hear a UFC fighter be so honest about their position with the promotion, but it sounds like Perez already knows his fate. Based on what he said, it sounds like he’s lost confidence in himself and he wants to go to a lower-level league and rebuild himself. It will be interesting to see if the 30-year-old can overcome his adversity or if his recent failures will continue to haunt him going forward.<\/p>\n
