That&#8217;s because he doesn&#8217;t think anyone should bestow themselves with such a weighty title.<\/p>\n<p>Usman explained his objection to fighters proclaiming themselves the GOAT during a recent interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmafighting.com\/2021\/1\/31\/22256611\/kamaru-usman-wont-ever-declare-hes-greatest-of-all-time-thats-not-something-you-bestow-upon-yourself\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MMA Fighting<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Kamaru Usman Has No Problem Fighting Gilbert Burns Because There are No Friends in the Octagon\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HMQVct4Toi4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p id=\"yp1DOa\">\u201cHonestly, I don\u2019t look at that. I don\u2019t think about that,\u201d Usman said. \u201cI don\u2019t think about stuff like that. I remember when Tyron Woodley was saying those things, he\u2019s the greatest welterweight of all time and this and that. Of course he\u2019s in that conversation but that\u2019s not something you bestow upon yourself. That\u2019s not something I want to think about and say I\u2019m this, I\u2019m that.<\/p>\n<p id=\"i2duC0\">\u201cNo, I go out there and I do my job,&#8221; Usman added. &#8220;I take it one fight at a time and then when I am done over time people look at your body of work and say \u2018wow, look what he did, look who he got through, he fought everyone and he made them look like this and he fought them and did them this way.\u2019 I\u2019m not the one who\u2019s going to go out there and put that label on myself but if you actually look at my resume and when I\u2019m said and done and you\u2019re like \u2018he 50-43\u2019d this guy, 50-44\u2019d this guy, he did this to that guy, man, that\u2019s the greatest of all time.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kamaru Usman captured the UFC welterweight title in early 2019, when he picked up a unanimous decision win over the long-time champion, Woodley. He has since defended the title with a fifth-round TKO victory over Colby Covington, and a unanimous decision win over Jorge Masvidal.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s now slated to defend his title opposite streaking contender Gilbert Burns in the main event of UFC 258 later this month.
