Recently it was revealed via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmafighting.com\/2021\/1\/12\/21554602\/the-cost-of-being-the-king-spencer-fisher-ufc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MMA Fighting<\/a> of the severity of former UFC lightweight, Spencer Fisher, and his recent struggles. Therefore prompting UFC President Dana White to reveal to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=x20Dn0rK7iQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MMA Junkie<\/a> that his promotion has begun working with top psychedelic research center, Johns Hopkins University, regarding the possible benefits of psychedelics.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the news of Fisher&#8217;s trauma, the UFC has been interested in the studies conducted around and usage of psychedelics for quite some time now. In multiple cases, they&#8217;ve gathered fighters&#8217; thoughts and continue to listen. Perhaps most notably aiding in the battle is former UFC flyweight Ian McCall who keeps in contact with UFC VP of Athlete Health and Performance, Jeff Novitzky.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel: Psychedelics in Sports (Full Segment) | HBO\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/rLC7e1V9UQ4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>However, it wasn&#8217;t until HBO released their feature on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=rLC7e1V9UQ4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Real Sports<\/em><\/a> (which also featured McCall) on the same subject that White pushed Novitzky in the direction of Johns Hopkins University according to ESPN.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do a performance study. I\u2019m a performance coach,\u201d McCall told <a href=\"https:\/\/mymmanews.com\/a-troubled-path-with-a-great-escape-the-ian-mccall-story\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MyMMANews.com<\/a> in April 2020. \u201cSo my microdosing protocol I have is obviously different for each client I have. I don\u2019t just do athletes, I do motivational speaking, I do a bunch of people. Men, women, doesn\u2019t matter. They need my help. That\u2019s my job. I have to and I love it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you look at microdosing with sports or with performance, you have the uptick in efficiency of everything you do, [which] is insane. You\u2019re so much more efficient. It won\u2019t make you physically stronger, mentally you\u2019re more efficient and physically. So it won\u2019t make you more strong like putting testosterone into your body more. Your body just moves with kinetic efficiency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost people just think of it as flow state,&#8221; The UFC vet explained. &#8220;You have the dropping of the fear response so you\u2019re not afraid to go for certain techniques that you\u2019ve never done before and you also have that kinetic efficiency so you pull them off, you\u2019re in a flow state so you see things coming at you better, you have visual acuity, mental acuity, linguistic acuity. My ex, she\u2019s kind of blind and she\u2019s like, \u2018Every time I take it, I see better.\u2019 Parts of your brain are turned on like that and it\u2019s crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Currently, psychedelic drugs are illegal in 49 of the 50 United States \u2014 the one exception being Oregon which made the usage legal late last year.<\/p>\n<p>Novitzky would note that he&#8217;s unaware of when the UFC could really start delving into the psychedelic department. As for White, he feels that brain injuries are just <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/dana-white\/dana-white-says-brain-injury-is-just-part-of-the-gig-in-mma\/\">&#8220;a part of the gig&#8221;.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We want to do it the right way,&#8221; Novitzky said to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mma\/story\/_\/id\/30708045\/ufc-looks-johns-hopkins-study-psychedelic-drugs-potential-therapy-fighters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ESPN<\/a>. &#8220;We want to get all the government approvals if we&#8217;re going to do something. We want to figure out how we&#8217;re going to recruit fighters. Unfortunately, it&#8217;s not something that happens overnight. But Dana has basically instructed me: &#8216;Hey I want this looked into.
