Khabib Nurmagomedov says he will be sticking to his retirement, contrary to the recent remarks<\/a> of UFC President Dana White.<\/p>\n

Nurmagomedov last fought in the main event of UFC 254 in late October, when he defended the lightweight title with a second-round submission of Justin Gaethje, and pushed his record to 29-0 in the process.<\/p>\n

In his post-fight interview with UFC commentator Jon Anik, Nurmagomedov explained that he\u2019d promised his mother his fight with Gaethje would be his last, citing the death of his father and mentor Abdulmanap as the reason.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was my last fight,\u201d a visibly emotional Nurmagomedov said.<\/p>\n

White, however, isn\u2019t buying it.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the conclusion of this week\u2019s episode of Contender Series, the UFC boss was asked whether the upcoming rematch between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier could crown a new lightweight champion, with Nurmagomedov ostensibly retiring. He insisted that there will be no title on the line in that fight, because Nurmagomedov will fight again.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, Khabib\u2019s going to fight,\u201d White said (via\u00a0MMA Junkie<\/a>). \u201cI believe he\u2019s going to. (McGregor-Poirier is) not for the title.<\/p>\n

\u201cI told you guys that I think he\u2019s going to go to 30 (wins),\u201d White added, referencing the fact that Nurmagomedov is still\u00a0undergoing drug tests<\/a>\u00a0as part of the UFC\u2019s partnership with the United States Anti-Doping Agency. \u201cIf he\u2019s still testing \u2013 why the hell would you want to test still if you\u2019re not going to fight?<\/p>\n

\u201cHe hasn\u2019t committed, but I feel like he\u2019s going to, and I\u2019m not really pushing him,\u201d White concluded. \u201cWe talked about it and he just fought. Let him take some time, spend some time with his family, spend the holidays. There\u2019s no rush.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking to TASS.ru<\/a> this week, Nurmagomedov responded to this comment from White.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately for the UFC boss and the lightweight champ’s legions of fans, it sounds like he’ll be sticking to his retirement and focusing on his other interests.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can fight until you\u2019re 40 but there should be a goal,\u201d Nurmagomedov said (via\u00a0RT Sport<\/a>). \u201cI had a goal to reach the summit and I got there. Further, I have no competitive interest. Next year I will graduate. I\u2019d like to [build on] my thesis, do a masters course, dedicate more time to studying. I\u2019ve bought sheep, I tend to my farm. I\u2019d like to develop in this field a little. I have the bull calves out to feed, I have cows.\u201d<\/p>\n
