However, his first taste of gold in the UFC came earlier this year when he dominated Tony Ferguson, who was also a former interim title holder, to win the belt and set up the fight against &#8220;The Eagle&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>As noted by Jed I. Goodman (@jedigoodman) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jedigoodman\/status\/1319514855905185792?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 23, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>Some of the greatest fighters in UFC history have held the interim title in the past, but Gaethje will hope that he follows in the footsteps of most by going on to win the undisputed belt too.<\/p>\n<p>One man who will do everything in his power to ensure that happens is Trevor Wittman, with the famous coach believing that Gaethje has <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/ufc\/justin-gaethje-has-kept-most-important-weapon-hidden-ahead-of-ufc-254-says-coach\/\">hidden his most important weapon yet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"KVZbzK\">\u201cI tailor my game plans throughout a career for a championship fight,\u201d Wittman explained on Thursday during\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmafighting.com\/fight-card\/1140\/ufc-254\">UFC 254<\/a>\u00a0media day. \u201cWe work on fundamentals from the beginning. One thing that I think that we were able to do very well was keep our most important weapon hidden and with Justin Gaethje, he\u2019s a extremely good wrestler and he\u2019s got a very unique style in wrestling.<\/p>\n<p id=\"XrVlQH\">\u201cHe hasn\u2019t had to use it. Again, it\u2019s very hard to go and game plan against someone\u2019s wrestling when they haven\u2019t showed it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"xSHevR\">\u201cI feel good about [Justin\u2019s wrestling] but Khabib is the best at what he does,\u201d Wittman said. \u201cIt\u2019s not like I\u2019m going \u2018we\u2019re going to go out there and out wrestle him.\u2019 Again, that\u2019s just a little bonus of what we have. It\u2019s an opportunity to go out there and face the best and I do believe Khabib, I believe he\u2019s the best pound-for-pound [fighter]. I\u2019ve thought that for a long period of time. I mean there\u2019s other fighters that put on exciting fights and you can consider them best pound-for-pound and who they\u2019ve faced and things like that.<\/p>\n<p id=\"GtO3Nu\">\u201cBut it\u2019s patterns. Who\u2019s the most consistent? When it comes to being consistent, that\u2019s the key to being great. It\u2019s consistency.
