MMA Fighting<\/a>). \u201cI said he speak too much, he talk too much in the media. He disrespected me.<\/p>\n\u201cHe think I didn\u2019t like that, but I said to him you like to talk too much. He said, \u2018Yeah,\u2019 I said I\u2019m going to smash your face, chicken. He said nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n
Meerschaert also weighed in on this confrontation. He seemed to take the situation a little less than his rival.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe passed each other in the hallway earlier today \u2013 it was pretty quick,\u201d Meerschaert said of his encounter with Chimaev. \u201cHe tried, I think he was trying to talk trash to me. He just kept saying, \u2018don\u2019t talk too much\u2019 and I was kind of like \u2018OK, we\u2019re fighting Saturday, we\u2019re not going to do anything now\u2019 because I want to make money. I don\u2019t know what his deal is.<\/p>\n
\u201cNot only that, but I don\u2019t think it\u2019s a very cool thing to flex when you\u2019ve got a bunch of your friends with you and stuff. Like I had one guy with me, he had a bunch of guys with him. Dude, I get it. You don\u2019t have to like me, I don\u2019t have to like you but let\u2019s just save it for the cage.\u201d<\/p>\n
Despite being booked to fight Meerschaert, Chimaev is already linked to a fight with Demian Maia this fall. Meerschaert has admitted he finds his foe’s double-booking “disrespectful,” but that’s the only real gripe he has.<\/p>\n
\u201cReally, I haven\u2019t said anything bad about him,\u201d Meerschaert said. \u201cHe\u2019s just angry for no reason. For me, it\u2019s like, dude, you\u2019re looking past me.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re the one that needs to put some respect on my name and acknowledge when you\u2019re fighting a guy that has 40-plus fights \u2013 might be more than a handful,” Meerschaert added. “I don\u2019t think I\u2019ve actually said anything bad about him, so I don\u2019t know why he was so upset, or if he thinks that makes him look like a tough guy or whatever. It\u2019s water off my back.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t really care what he\u2019s going to say, because we have a contract in place that says on Saturday night, they\u2019re going to lock that cage door and we get to figure it out ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n
While Gerald Meerschaert claims to feel no animosity heading into this matchup, Khamzat Chimaev seems to be holding a bit of a grudge.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m going to finish all my opponents,\u201d Chimaev said. \u201cI\u2019m going to try to do this in this fight. I\u2019m going to finish this guy.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI am better everywhere. I have better wrestling. I have better grappling. I have better striking. How\u2019s he going to stop me? He said my jiu-jitsu but eight fights, eight finishes. But these guys were not jokes that I\u2019m fighting, these guys are real fighters. I finished the guys. Who is this guy to stop me?
