{"id":357910,"date":"2020-08-05T07:06:35","date_gmt":"2020-08-05T14:06:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/?p=357910"},"modified":"2020-08-05T07:06:35","modified_gmt":"2020-08-05T14:06:35","slug":"chris-weidman-admits-i-need-to-get-a-freaking-w-ahead-of-akhmedov-fight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/ufc\/chris-weidman-admits-i-need-to-get-a-freaking-w-ahead-of-akhmedov-fight\/","title":{"rendered":"Chris Weidman admits \u201cI need to get a freaking W&#8221; ahead of Akhmedov fight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman, who is now 1-5 in his last six fights, knows he needs a win when <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/ufc\/chris-weidman-plans-to-mentally-and-physically-break-omari-akhmedov-to-earn-stoppage-win\/\">he fights Omari Akhmedov<\/a> at UFC Vegas 6 this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmafighting.com\/2020\/8\/5\/21353190\/chris-weidman-knows-pressure-hes-facing-going-1-5-in-his-past-six-fights-i-need-to-get-a-freaking-w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> MMA Fighting<\/a> ahead of this high-stakes bout, Weidman opened up on his recent struggles.<\/p>\n<p id=\"76KBQg\">\u201cIt\u2019s a very tough sport. It\u2019s a fickle sport,\u201d Weidman said. \u201cThe fans are definitely tough. But it\u2019s also kind of motivating. You want to remind them. I\u2019m 1-5 in my last six fights. But you look at who I fought and then one person I beat [Kelvin Gastelum] and he\u2019s done pretty good himself. In all those fights, other than my [Dominick] Reyes fight, I was winning the fight. It\u2019s just kind of the way it works sometimes.<\/p>\n<p id=\"7UW1BV\">\u201cYou fight all these really good guys, you\u2019re not always going to get your hand raised. There\u2019s definitely randomness who wins that night. Random things that happen. It doesn\u2019t necessarily mean that person is the better person in the fight.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Heading into his Saturday night fight, Weidman admits he wasn&#8217;t familiar with his opponent when the matchup was offered. That being said, he&#8217;s taking the challenge very seriously.<\/p>\n<p id=\"16FiSE\">\u201cI just wanted to fight,\u201d Weidman said. \u201cI honestly didn\u2019t really hear of him leading up. I was like who\u2019s that? Even my manager didn\u2019t know. Then I looked him up and he\u2019s been on his way up. He\u2019s been in the UFC for a while, kind of going back and forth between welterweight and middleweight.<\/p>\n<p id=\"EfDYj9\">\u201cHe\u2019s on a nice win streak and he\u2019s ranked in the top 15. It\u2019s one of the first times I\u2019m not fighting someone in the top five but he\u2019s a tough kid. I think it\u2019s a really good matchup.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"3lLht0\">\u201cI\u2019m taking it very serious. He\u2019s tough but when I look at the guys I\u2019ve fought, I don\u2019t think he\u2019s up there as far as the most talented. I think that\u2019s a fair statement without knocking him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the day, Weidman is just focused on correcting his recent skid with a sorely needed dose of victory.<\/p>\n<p id=\"uSCZPv\">\u201cI need to get a freaking \u2018W,\u201d Weidman said. \u201cI need to get back on my winning ways.
