When negotiations stalled, Burns was awarded the next shot at Usman in Masvidal&#8217;s place.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on his <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/lU8uzB2owQI\">YouTube channel<\/a>, Masvidal <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/ufc\/jorge-masvidal-claims-gilbert-burns-is-getting-the-lowest-possible-money-for-title-fight\/\">suggested<\/a> that Burns accepted &#8220;the lowest money possible to fight for a title.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey offered me considerably less money than what I should be getting, and it didn\u2019t work\u201d Masvidal said, explaining how Burns got a title shot before him. \u201cThen they offer [Burns] the least amount of money that they would take. That\u2019s what they did. They offered me, then when I said no, they offered a couple of other people until they got to Gilbert. Gilbert wasn\u2019t their first thing. Nobody on a worldwide scale knows him. I\u2019m not dissing his skillset, but he\u2019s not a known guy, so of course he took the lowest money possible to fight a title.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe can do whatever he wants with his time and his skillset,\u201d Masvidal added. \u201cSo can I. I want to get paid. I don\u2019t have nothing negative or positive to say about the fight that\u2019s coming up. I\u2019m just worried about me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmafighting.com\/2020\/6\/25\/21302496\/gilbert-burns-happy-with-pay-for-ufc-251-jorge-masvidal-claims-he-took-lowest-money-possible\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MMA Fighting<\/a> this week, Burns responded to questions surrounding his remuneration. Contrary to Masvidal&#8217;s claims, he says he&#8217;s been well compensated for the fight. He also says he&#8217;s looking forward to greater paydays once he becomes the champion.<\/p>\n<p id=\"MsZeDQ\">\u201cThey offered me a great amount of money,\u201d Burns said about his deal to fight at UFC 251 when speaking to MMA Fighting. \u201cMore money than a lot of guys get fighting for the title. I\u2019m happy for my situation. But I\u2019m putting myself in that position to get those fights.<\/p>\n<p id=\"l6YIK8\">\u201cI understand Masvidal\u2019s side, he wants more money. But I think it all comes down to management. If you just signed a deal, how come you going to ask for a new deal? It just doesn\u2019t make sense. I think it\u2019s all in the negotiations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Masvidal asserted himself as the next man in line for a welterweight title shot with a fantastic run in 2019. He began the year by knocking out Darren Till, followed up with a record-breaking, knockout of the formerly undefeated Ben Askren, and concluded the year by defeating Nate Diaz in the first and only \u201cBMF\u201d title fight.<\/p>\n<p>Gilbert Burns, meanwhile, earned his welterweight title shot by going 4-0 in the division after a long run at lightweight.
