{"id":350788,"date":"2020-05-19T11:30:56","date_gmt":"2020-05-19T18:30:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/?p=350788"},"modified":"2020-05-19T11:30:56","modified_gmt":"2020-05-19T18:30:56","slug":"eddie-alvarez-makes-prediction-for-conor-mcgregor-vs-justin-gaethje-matchup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/one-championship\/eddie-alvarez-makes-prediction-for-conor-mcgregor-vs-justin-gaethje-matchup\/","title":{"rendered":"Eddie Alvarez makes prediction for Conor McGregor vs. Justin Gaethje matchup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If Conor McGregor and Justin Gaethje collide in the Octagon, Eddie Alvarez believes McGregor will come out on top.<\/p>\n<p>Gaethje, who captured the interim lightweight title with a win over Tony Ferguson at UFC 249, has been <a href=\"http:\/\/staging.tcpcharms.com\/bjpenn\/mma-news\/ufc\/conor-mcgregor-vows-to-butcher-gaethje-unloads-on-ferguson-nurmagomedov-and-poirier\/\">called out<\/a> by McGregor several times since, renewing discussions about a potential fight between them.<\/p>\n<p>Alvarez, of course, has fought both men, losing to McGregor by knockout, and beating Gaethje by knockout, so he&#8217;s uniquely suited to weigh in on this potential matchup.<\/p>\n<p>He did so in a conversation with <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/9EFCiAyoKbA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TheScore<\/a><\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/youtu.be\/9EFCiAyoKbA<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think a knockout (for McGregor),\u201d Alvarez said (transcript via <a href=\"https:\/\/mmajunkie.usatoday.com\/2020\/05\/eddie-alvarez-prediction-conor-mcgregor-justin-gaethje-ufc-knockout\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MMA Junkie<\/a>). \u201cI was able to catch (Gaethje) quite a bit with punches, and you watch, Dustin (Poirier) was able to box him a little bit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe thing with Justin, if I thought he was going to implement a ground game and go in there and take Conor McGregor down and put him against the cage and do what Khabib did, or do what I intended to do, if he was going to implement that game, I would say, \u2018Justin is going to do really well against him,&#8217;\u201d Alvarez added. \u201cJust standing for standing, is what I feel like it\u2019ll end up being, there\u2019s just too many mistakes Justin would end up making and Conor would be able to kind of capitalize.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eddie Alvarez, who is the former Bellator and UFC lightweight champ, parted ways with the UFC and signed with ONE Championship. He&#8217;s gone 1-1 in the Singapore-based promotion, succumbing to punches from Timofey Nastyukhin in his debut, and defeating the former champion Eduard Folayang in his next outing.
