One such example came during Trevin Giles vs. James Krause which closed out the prelims section of the card.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The general consensus during the middleweight contest was that Krause managed to win the first round of the fight, but Soliz actually scored the round for Giles \u2014 and if he&#8217;d gone the other way, provided the rest of his scoring remained intact, Krause would&#8217;ve won the fight via split decision instead of losing it.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>As reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/joe-soliz-judged-bout-coached-by-former-trainer-at-ufc-247-1.1444786\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"TSN (opens in a new tab)\">TSN<\/a>, it turns out that Soliz actually has a connection to Giles&#8217; gym and head coach Elite MMA &amp; Eric Williams.<\/p>\r\n<p><blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Judge Joe Soliz, whose scorecards were a major topic of conversation following UFC 247, earned his BJJ black belt under Eric Williams in 2008.<br><br>Williams is the head coach for Trevin Giles and Soliz was an instructor at Williams&#39; gym until 2010.<br><br>Story: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/2nGbeGtUZb\">https:\/\/t.co\/2nGbeGtUZb<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/CBgH9SouaB\">pic.twitter.com\/CBgH9SouaB<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Aaron Bronsteter (@aaronbronsteter) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/aaronbronsteter\/status\/1229890586267865088?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 18, 2020<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>\u201cUnder Eric Williams of Elite MMA, I received my black belt in 2008,\u201d Soliz said. \u201cI left Elite in 2010, and received my first-, second-, and third-degree under Octavio Couto.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>\u201cI haven\u2019t been in contact or associated with [Elite MMA] in over eight years,\u201d Soliz said.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Williams himself spoke about the link between Soliz and himself.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve known Joe for years,\u201d Williams said. \u201cI haven\u2019t talked to him in probably a year and a half or two years. The problem is it&#8217;s kind of a small world, so you get people crossing paths and I think that you&#8217;re going to have stuff like that happen. Whenever you can prevent it, I would. But again, I don&#8217;t worry about it. If you finish the fight, you don&#8217;t have to worry about those kinds of things.
